Not One of Us The Same , 2003
Acrylic on Canvas
53" x 91"
Private Collection

I take from the study of plants lessons on how we can live in harmony and peace with one another.  By their own diversity and complexity, I take from them the lessons of biodiversity and the interdependency of all of life on the planet.  We humans, although each one different, are of the same species and therefore we as individuals make up part of a whole.  Our existence is inexplicably interwoven with each other as it is with the existence of so many other species on this planet.  When looking at the whole picture of our existence, racism and other imagined divisions such as religion seem utterly ridiculous.  But the ugliness of what we sometimes imagine of ourselves as human beings does not outweigh the marvel which radiates differently from one person to the next.  You can’t find two snow flakes alike, each equisitly beautiful on their own, together they make up snow. Not one of us is the same as each other, but yet we are one in the larger scheme of things.
