Maria Campbell - Métis Artist/Activist/Author/Professor. Ms. Campbell’s profound effect on Metis arts and Metis artists continues to be felt today. From her first groundbreaking novel Halfbreed to now, Ms. Campbell’s stories, plays, films and an active role in the Metis Nation is an inspiration for many. Aside from her artistic accomplishments, Maria has spent over 30 years as a tireless advocate for aboriginal rights, for women, and youth. She spends a great deal of time encouraging younger Metis women in their many endeavors. She resides in Batoche, Saskatchewan, where her family had settled and participated in the resistance and the “battle of Batoche” in 1885.
